Putin jammt überall wo er hinkommt erstmal das GPS: Researchers at a Washington-based think tank have noticed that a funny thing happens whenever Russian President Vladimir Putin gets close to a harbor: The GPS of the ships moored there go haywire, placing them many miles away on the runways of nearby airports. According to a new report by security experts with the group C4ADS, the phenomenon suggests that Putin travels with a mobile GPS spoofing device and, more broadly, that Russia is manipulating global navigation systems on a scale far greater than previously understood.
They replicated the study in which Neural Networks predicted the sexual orientation by portrait pictures. The study back than was slammed as a return to pseudosciences like physiognomics and the replication here is 1.) not reliable with success rates between roughly 60 and 80% and 2.) unclear if these unreliable success rate stem from the human features or outside factors like “grooming, shaving, backgrounds, lifestyle” and so on. Still (and the scientists acknowledge this), this technology may be adopted into “fun apps” and this poses uncalculatable risk for gay ans lesbian people.

Buster Keaton: Anarchitect: Keaton’s comedy derives largely from the positioning —and constant, unexpected repositioning— of his body in space, and in architectural space particularly. Unlike other slapstick performers who relished in the close-up and detailed attention to the protagonist, Keaton frequently directed the camera to film with a wide far-shot that could contain the whole of a building’s facade or urban span within the frame. Proud of always carrying out his own (often extremely dangerous) stunts, this enabled him to show the audience that his actions were performed in real-time —and real-place— rather than simply being tricks of the camera or editing process. It also allowed him to visually explore the many ways in which his body could engage with the urban form.
